About Elm STEMs

The Elms College Elm STEMs program, supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation, awards scholarship funds to students who attend Elms College full-time and major in STEM fields.  First year students interested in majors in Biology, Computer Information Technology, Chemistry, or Mathematics are invited to apply to the Elm STEMs program. Students majoring in pre-medical studies or education are not eligible to participate.

The scholarships range from $3,800 - $10,000 a year for 4 years at Elms College for students who maintain 3.0 GPA and full-time status in their STEM major. In addition, the Elm STEMs program provides opportunities for:

  • Industry experiential career enrichment
  • Networking with industry professionals

Math and science skills are needed in a number of high-growth industries including advanced manufacturing, alternative energy, biotechnology, and information technology.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the Elm STEMs scholarship, you must meet the requirements listed below. Underrepresented communities in the sciences such as minorities, female students, and first-generation college students are strongly encouraged to apply.

  • Be a prospective full-time first year student for the Fall 2015 semester at Elms College
  • Be a prospective major in Biology, Computer Information Technology, Chemistry, or Mathematics, except for clinical fields such as pre-medical or teaching professions
  • Be a US citizen, alien admitted as refugee, or alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence
  • Have documented financial need

 

To Apply

Application reviews begin on February 1st 2015. Applicants will be informed of scholarship decisions in March 2015.

  • Apply to Elms College as a full-time first year student for Fall 2015. Your application to Elms College will include an essay, recommendation letters, your high school transcript, and SAT or ACT scores. It is suggested that one of your recommendation letters is from a science, technology, or mathematics teacher.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form for financial need. Elms College school code for the FAFSA is 002140.
  • Complete and submit the Elms College Elm STEMs scholarship application form.
  • Qualified applicants may be called for an interview, and scholarship decisions will be made before May 1st.
